High academic records aren’t the only thing Towson University is known for, but also the talent of dance that shines through the student body.
TU is filled with dance from the proper ballet etiquette performed by the Towson Dance Company all the way down to hip hop, and “krumping” dance parties on campus. The dance phenomenon is shown at Towson through the countless number of dance teams on campus, the strict dance department, and even the after school dance workout classes given in Burdick Gym. If you want to dance, Towson has it for you.
From this beat I want to cover stories from The Towson Dance Team and their up and coming thoughts on their competition in Daytona, Fla., and also stories from other student organized teams at Towson such as Allure Dance Troupe and Groove Crew. Even ordinary students who just take dance workout classes as a stress reliever can make a good news story. Dance at Towson is always full of excitement and surprises, so I want to incorporate those elements in my stories as well.

My name is Krystal Mitchell and I am a junior here at Towson University. I am majoring in Mass Communications with a dual track in Public Relations and Advertising. I am taking Journalism New Media II to help with my writing skills. Due to the Mass Communication field becoming so integrated, it helps to be good in each area. The beat that I am considering to write about is living in West Village or Towson Run. The two residence halls are seperated from the rest of the Towson campus and sometimes easily gets forgotten. This may be a great topic for stories but I will see what other ideas awaits me. Let’s have a great semester!

Connel Mitchell, 54, has been “dirty working” with cars for 43 years and will not risk leaving his job in this shaky economy.
Mitchell is an Auto Technician who has emerged himself in the study of cars. He is a Grenada native and has been in America since 1987. For the majority of his life he has been repairing cars. Fixing brakes, changing the oil, repairng the transmission, and cooling the engine is all part of a days hard work. Besides repairing cars, Connel sells used auto parts at A & R Auto Parts in Northwest, DC. Although his job is considered dirty, Connel feels he holds a stable job in todays economy and is grateful for his “dirty work.”

Reggae has become a fascination of Americas since the 1970s and along with the music, other aspects of the Caribbean culture has been embedded into ours at the same time.
When Reggae music originated in the 1960s it was only heard in the Caribbean. Pioneers of Reggae such as American Singer Johnny Cash, Jamaican singer and songwriter Bob Marley and Jamaican singer Toots Hilbert helped Reggae become mainstream in the early 1970s. Reggae has traveled a long journey to reach American ears and today in America, Reggae is one of the most popular genres of music. Everything about it from the rhythm, the lyrics and the beats appeals not only to a younger audience, but also to an older audience. Reggae is characterized by a strong back beated rhythm and can be distinguished from any other genre of music. When Reggae was introduced, the Caribbean culture was also introduced to our country and it has influenced the way we dance, and the way we dress.
The timeline shows the beginning of Reggae music showing early reggae artists who were important in making Reggae global. Throughout the timeline shows the different aspects of Caribbean culture that has influenced our culture. Finally the timeline ends with photos of current Reggae artist and the differences between early Reggae and current Reggae.
